KASI INFRARED vs. RAYTECH
BENCHMARK COMPARISONS

R The Ray-Tech chamber is 6' X 8' X 8" made of 16 gauge stainless steel with a simple carbon steel angle A frame for strength.

K The KASI chamber is 6' X 8' X 11" made of 16 gauge stainless steel with a full stainless steel angle A frame and 1 X 2 stainless steel tubing frame work and support arms and stainless steel angle reinforced corners for strength and resistance to heat warp.

R The Ray-Tech chamber support arms are carbon steel tubing.

K The KASI chamber support arms are stainless steel tubing.

R The Ray-Tech chamber contains 6 rows of infrared converters.

K The KASI chamber contains 8 rows of infrared converters.

R The Ray-Tech Converters are hand welded ribbon style developed in 1968 by Tony Heller and must operate at 1850 F to be functional. This shortens significantly the life of the Inconel grids (what generates the infrared) and requires a 24 volt system to obtain sufficient CFM from the blower motors to satisfy the air/LPG volume requirements of this design. The fuel necessary to operate this chamber is 9.8 gallons per hour.

K The KASI converters are 1" diameter X 3/8" wall seamless stainless steel pipe with slit orifices for the LPG/air mix. The orifices are machined on an automatic lathe. The KASI converters operate at a temperature of 1650F which doubles the life of the Inconel grids. The LPG consumption rate of the KASI chamber is 6.8 gallons per hour. The performance benefit of the 8 converter system at 1650F compared to the 6 converter system at 1850F is a far more uniform depth of heat transfer across the length and breadth of the chamber and a faster heat transfer into the asphalt with 2/3 the LPG consumption.

R The Ray-Tech chamber is raised and lowered by an electric winch and cable.

K The KASI chamber is raised and lowered by a dual cylinder hydraulic system eliminating the dangers of cable breakage and/or pulley issues. (KASI uses non-flammable -70F hydraulic fluid).

R The Ray-Tech trailer frame is made from 5" X 3.5" X 3/8" angle iron and 4" X 5 channel for cross members.

K The KASI trailer frame and cross members are fabricated from 3" X 5" X 3/8" seamless tubing which has twice the strength.

R Ray-Tech utilizes dual spring leaf 6,000 LB axles.

K KASI employs dual 7,000 LB Dexter Torflex Axles which are by far superior in handling and durability.

R The Ray-Tech re-claimer has manually operated top loading doors that require climbing onto the unit to open and close.

K KASI has hydraulically operated top loading doors operated from ground level eliminating the potential for slipping or falling while opening and closing the top loading doors at the asphalt plant.

R The Ray-Tech re-claimer has its top vents inside the top of the side wall which puts heated air directly on the top of the asphalt load which dries it out on top prematurely.

K KASI vents the hot air to the outside.

R The infrared burners in the RAY-Tech re-claimer have the venturies on the inside of the burner deck which causes un even burning of the infrared burners due to inconsistent oxygen content in the air and air temperatures ranging from ambient to 500F.

K KASI has an external ventury design which draws ambient outside air with a uniform oxygen content and temperature providing even burning across the face of the infrared burners.

R Ray-Tech utilizes ceramic tile infrared burners in their re-claimers. These burners and ceramic tiles were never designed to be in something that isn't stationary and the incidence of cracked ceramic tiles is high. Once a tile cracks the burner must be removed and rebuilt. These burners must be removed a minimum of once per year to have the fibrofrax replaced.

K KASI uses Solaronics nickel/chromium screen stainless steel shell infrared burners in its' re-claimers eliminating ceramic tiles and fibrofrax. They have a 10 to 15 year life depending on usage and are virtually indestructible.

R Ray-Tech has no external insulated re-claimer doors covering the shovel doors.

K KASI has insulated outer re-claimer doors covering the shovel doors.

R Ray-Tech utilizes black iron pipe for all of their LPG lines. These tend to leak under any kind of pressure at the joints and they rust internally causing debris to ultimately partially or completely clog the LPG ports in the gas valves and adjustment valves.

K KASI utilizes continuous stainless steel tubing with Swagelok fittings which eliminated any leak potential, debris potential or safety issue.

R Ray-Tech utilizes direct threaded connection to the LPG tanks on the high pressure side of the regulators with no POL valves.

K KASI utilizes soft connections with POL valves. The POL valves automatically close at the tanks should there be a breach of any LPG line.

R Ray-Tech positions the four 100 LB LPG tanks at the rear of the unit between the battery box and the infrared chamber leaving the tanks and connections and flexible high pressure lines vulnerable to a misposition or accidental dump of asphalt at the plant.

K KASI positions its five 100 LB tanks next to the re-claimer so they are covered by the top loading doors when they are open which prevents any spill of asphalt onto the tanks, connections, or lines.

R The Ray-Tech blower motor system is 24 volts. The brushless motors required for this have to have a separate control board for each of the two motors. It also requires remote location of the gas valves and gas adjustment valves in the battery box.

K KASI has a 12 volt brushless motor system that incorporates the gas valves, adjustment valves, and motor controls all in the same unit for ease of maintenance and adjustment and provides compatibility with truck 12V systems.

R The Ray-Tech roller platform is accessed by a vertical winch tower, boom, and cable which pose potential injury issues.

K KASI incorporates the roller ramp system which eliminates the hazards of raising a 600 LB roller on a cable and manually pushing the boom around for loading and unloading. KASI does include all of the necessary lighting for safety including a 6 way LED light bar as standard fare.

R Ray-Tech must modify the truck engine compartment by adding a 24 V alternator to have the truck charge the operating batteries while running or add a 24V gas or LPG engine driven 24V alternator in order to charge the batteries during operation.

K KASI has a 12V system that connects directly to the truck electrical system through the trailer/truck electrical connection to facilitate charging the system batteries while the truck is running.

R Ray-Tech utilizes standard battery charger/maintainers designed for fixed station application.

K KASI utilizes marine battery charger/maintainers which are designed to take the elements and be on mobile systems.
